Hydnotria michaelis

Description
Fruit-body irregular globose, knotty pleaded, Ø 3-4 cm. Outer surface yellow-brown to red-brown, smooth to fine velvety. Flesh red brown to purple, with cavities and a whitish maze-like structure. Smell weak when young, pleasant, later on unpleasant like garlic or phosphor.

Occurrence
Among the litter or half above the ground by coniferous trees and under the bark of felled coniferous trees on sandy soil.
Possibly forming ectomycorrhiza.
