Description
Less than 1cm: Use magnifying glass.
Fruit-body cushion-shaped, Ø 2-4 mm, red-brown to brown-black evenly covered with papillae. Occasionally growing on and among root-like structure, the imperfect Geniculosporium stage.

Occurrence
On dead branches of broad-leaved trees. Winter-spring.
Saprophyte.

Related and/or similar species
The teleomorph can only be distinguished from small specimens of Hypoxylon fragiforme by microscopic features.
