Description
Fruit-body bowl- to cup-shaped, Ø 1-5 cm. Inner surface vermilion to bright red. Outer surface whitish floccose-clayey, occasionally with a deep-rooting stem, dingy flesh to red.
Stem felted, white. Flesh tough.
Occurrence
On buried branches (Alder, Willow) and decayed wood of broad-leaved trees in broad-leaved woods on damp, rich soil. February to April.
Saprophyte.
Related and/or similar species
Only by microscopic features can this species be distinguished from Sarcoscypha austriaca and Sarcoscypha jurana, which occurs on branches of Lime trees.
