Sumners Earth Cup
Description
Fruit-body cup-shaped, at first spherical, hollow and entirely subterranean, splitting to form irregular star shape and breaking the soil, Ø 2-7 cm. Inner surface beige to light grey-ochre. Outer surface densely covered with dark brown hairs, red-brown. Flesh thick, white.
Occurrence
On partly decayed needles on soil deficient in humus under Cedar and Yew. April to May.
