Helvella fusca

Description
Fruit-body 3-9 cm. Cap 3-5 cm, saddle-shaped, 2- to 3-lobed. Upper surface brown-black when young; later turning yellow-brown to date-brown. Margin usually attached to stem, lower surface with conspicuously branched veins, dingy white to pale brown.
Stem hollow, with strong ribs and fine hairs, white to yellow-brown, 3-5 x 1-2 cm.

Occurrence
On humus-rich, calcareous sand and in poor grassland, on clay underneath broad-leaved trees (Poplars). Spring.
