Helvella leucomeleana

Description
Fruit-body 3-6 cm. Cap bowl-shaped, then flattened with a torn margin, Ø 2-4 cm. Inner surface greyish brown to brown-black. Lower side at the transition to the stem paler.
Stem mostly hidden in the soil, hollow, with few rounded length-ridges, that end at the bottom of the cap, white, 1-2 x 1 cm. Flesh tough, white.

Occurrence
On calcareous, sandy soil in coniferous woods, often along paths with shells. April-June.
Saprophyte.
