Bachelor's Buttons
(Black Bulgar, Black Jelly Drops, India Rubber Fungus, Pope's Buttons, or Stud Fungus)
Description
Fruit-body top- to disc-shaped, Ø 1-4 cm. Inner surface dry matt, shiny brown-black to black when damp. Outer surface clayey floccose, with somewhat protruding margin, dark brown to black. Flesh ochrous-brown.
Occurrence
Often in groups on the bark and rupturing the bark of recently felled trees and fallen branches of Oak and Beech in broad-leaved and mixed woods.
