Description
Fruit-body spatula- to club-shaped, 3-8 cm high. Upper part broad spatula- to club-shaped, compressed on two sides, with two or more longitudinal grooves, clearly separate from the stem, matt black-brown to black.
Stem densely covered with fine hairs, matt black, 2-6 cm x 2-4 mm.

Occurrence
On the ground in (dune) grasslands on sand deficient in lime, sand valleys and peat moors, occasionally on damp, rich clay in broad-leaved woods.
