Description
Fruit-body protruding or hanging, shell- to ear-shaped, Ø 2-8 cm. Upper surface attached centrally to the substrate, finely downy, brown-pink to greyish olive-brown. Lower surface wrinkled-pleated, red-brown to olive-brown, occasionally whitish pruinose with spores. Flesh gelatinous to dry horn-like.

Occurrence
Common on branches and trunks of elder, also on other deciduous trees and shrubberies, especially on calcareous soil. Spring to autumn.
Parasitic. (Saprophyte).
