Thelephora caryophyllea

Description
Fruit-body rosette- to funnel-shaped, flesh thin, Ø 2-5 cm. Upper surface radially fibrous, zoned, purple-brown, with a fringe-like, often deeply torn, whitish margin. Lower side pale lilac-grey to dark violet-brown.
Stem central, smooth, 5-20 x 2-5 mm, dark purple-brown.
Spore-print colour brown.

Occurrence
With coniferous trees (Spruce, Fir) in coniferous woods, especially along path sides, on poor, calcareous sand.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
