Cabbage Earth-fan
Description
Fruit-body tufted, strongly branched coral-shaped, 4-7 x 4-7 cm. Upper surface branched once or repeatedly, each branch with a flattened to fan-shaped, ciliate-dentate tip, whitish when young, later darker grey-brown to lilac-brown, tips remaining whitish.
Flesh corky, tough. Smell unpleasant.
Spore-print colour brown.
Occurrence
Near coniferous trees on humus-rich soil with plenty of litter.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
