Earth Fan


Description
Fruit-body fan- to rosette-shaped, often fused to large, semicircular or elongate plaques covering several square decimetres. Upper surface radially hairy-fibrous, concentrically zoned, grey-brown to rusty brown with light, ciliate margin. Lower surface warty-wrinkled, bright or dark cinnamon to grey-brown. Flesh fibrous, tough. smell faintly earthy.
Spore-print colour purple-brown.

Occurrence
Common near (young) deciduous and coniferous trees in woods and on heaths on poor soil, often on litter or on and around small trunks.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
