Split-gill Fungus
Description
Fruit-body shell- to fan-shaped, often lobed, laterally attached, Ø 1-4 cm. Upper surface of the bracket covered with hairy down protruding over the margin, white or grey-white, occasionally with purple tinge. Lower surface bearing radially arranged 'pseudo-gills', split lengthwise with reflexed edges, pale flesh to violet-grey. Flesh tough.
Spore-print colour white.
Occurrence
Common on (piles of thick) trunks and branches of deciduous trees.
Saprophyte.
