Description
Fruit-body annual, thick, cushion-shaped to bracket-like. Cap 2-12 x 2-8 cm, 2-4 cm thick. Upper surface velvety-felted, whitish cream to ochre-brownish, with obtuse margin.
Tubes 5-10 mm long, white. Pores 1-3 per mm, circular or angular to elongate, white to cream. Flesh corky, tough, white. Smell of aniseed, of iodine when dry.
Spore-print colour white.

Occurrence
On trunks, stumps and pollarded trees (Willow, Poplar) in osier beds and marshland scrub.
Parasitic.
