Description
Less than 1cm: Use magnifying glass.
Fruit-body annual, slanting funnel- to kidney- or fan-shaped, with eccentric to central stem. Cap Ø 1-8 cm. Upper surface smooth, matt, ochre-yellow to pale brown or orange-brown with acute, undulate, scored margin.
Tubes 0.5-2 mm long, decurrent, cream to ochre. Pores 4-6 per mm, circular to angular, whitish or cream to ochre-brown or grey-brown.
Stem 1-5 cm x 3-10 mm, smooth, matt, cream to brown, with clearly demarcated, black margin or lower part. Flesh corky, tough, white. Smell pleasant.
Spore-print colour white.

Occurrence
Common on branches, stumps and trunks of deciduous trees (Beech, Willow, Poplar, Ash). Summer to autumn.
Saprophyte.
