Description
Fruit-body annual, fan-shaped to flattened funnel-shaped, stem attached centrally or eccentrically, occasionally fused together. Cap Ø 8-30 cm, 1-4 mm thick. Upper surface concentrically zoned, felted, orange to dark brown or red-brown or black, with a sulphur-yellow to green-yellow, acute marginal zone.
Tubes 5-10 mm long, brown. Pores maze-like, green-yellow.
Stem 3-8 x 2-5 cm, brown. Flesh juicy, brown. Smell somewhat sour.
Spore-print colour white.
Occurrence
Fairly common at the base or on the roots of living coniferous trees, also on stumps. Summer to autumn.
