Description
Fruit-body annual, hoof-shaped to bracket-like, 10-30 x 6-20 cm, 4-10 cm thick. Upper surface felted-hairy bristly, ochre-brown to dark brown or black-brown, with sulphur-yellow to yellow-brown margin when young.
Tubes 1-4 cm long, rusty brown. Pores 2-3 per mm, circular to angular, white-yellowish to greyish ochre-brown, often guttate.
Spore-print colour yellow-brown.
Occurrence
Not uncommon on trunks of living deciduous trees (Apple, Walnut, Ash, Elm, Plane) in parks, orchards, avenues and public gardens.
