Brown Funnel Polypore
(Wet Rot)
Description
Fruit-body top-shaped to flattened funnel-shaped, with stem, up to 6 cm high. Cap Ø 2-8 cm, with concentric zones, finely velvety to smooth, chestnut or rusty brown to ochre or pale grey.
Tubes 2-3 mm long, decurrent, brown or grey-beige. Pores 2-4 per mm, irregularly angular, cinnamon, white pruinose.
Stem 2-4 cm x 2-6 mm, velvety, rusty brown.
Spore-print colour ochrous brown.
Occurrence
Near coniferous and deciduous trees in open Fir woodland, mixed woods and heaths on dry, poor sandy soil.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
