Purple Stereum
(Silver Leaf Fungus, or Violet Crust)
Description
Fruit-body crust-like, with undulate margins protruding up to 2 cm, Ø 2-4 cm. Upper surface of the brackets hairy downy, concentrically zoned, hairs white. Lower surface smooth, dark violet or brown-violet to brown.
Spore-print colour white.
Occurrence
Common on fresh trunks and stumps of deciduous trees. This fungus causes silver-leaf disease in cherry trees.
Parasitic. (Saprophyte).
