Description
Fruit-body trumpet- to funnel-shaped. Cap Ø 2-6 cm, depressed, smooth to scaly, with irregularly undulate margin, yellow-brown to dark dingy brown. Lower surface with narrow, irregularly branched, decurrent, gill-like ridges, yellowish to grey-brown.
Stem 2-10 cm x 5-10 mm, hollow, grooved or flattened, dingy yellow to olive-yellow. Flesh tough, yellowish. Smell faint. Taste mild.
Spore-print colour yellowish.
Edible.

Occurrence
Near Beech and Oak in deciduous woods, avenues and wooded banks on poor, acid sandy soil. Often in groups.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
