Girolle
Description
Fruit-body flattened funnel-shaped. Cap Ø 3-10 cm, plane, with incurved, undulate margin, pale to deep egg-yellow. Lower surface with irregularly forked, decurrent, vein-like ridges, egg-yellow.
Stem 3-8 cm x 5-15 mm, with tapering base, egg-yellow. Flesh fibrous, yellowish. Smell faint, agreeable. Taste watery-peppery.
Spore-print colour ochre.
Edible.
Occurrence
Fairly common near coniferous (Fir) and deciduous trees (Oak, Birch, Beech) on poor, acid sandy soil.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
