Description
Cap semi-funnel-shaped to shell-shaped, umbilicate Ø 3-6 cm, undulate, smooth, matt, yellowish brown to brown-red, with incurvate, acute margin.
Gills whitish to brownish, deeply decurrent, with scored edge.
Stem 3-10 cm x 3-8 mm, tough longitudinally furrowed, yellowish to red-brown with dark grey-brown to red-brown base. Flesh whitish to grey-brown. Taste mild. Smell strong, of aniseed.
Spore-print colour whitish cream.
Suspect.
Occurrence
Not uncommon on deciduous trees (Beech, Oak) in deciduous woods on dry sand or loam. Often tufted.
