Dark Downy Roll-rim


Description
Cap shell-shaped, Ø 10-15 cm, velvety-felted, with patches cracking into scales, ochrous brown to olive-brown or red-brown, with incurved margin.
Gills close, veined near the stem, decurrent, cream to pale ochre, staining brown on bruising.
Stem 3-6 x 2-4 cm, eccentric, velvety, black-brown. Flesh yellowish. Taste bitter. Smell somewhat sour.
Suspect.

Occurrence
Not uncommon on stumps and buried wood of coniferous trees in coniferous woods on poor sand.
Saprophyte.
