Description
Cap hemispherical to convex, Ø 6-12 cm, matt, creamy brown or yellow-brown to dark brown.
Tubes light salmon to coral-pink. Pores salmon to coral-pink, turning brown on bruising.
Stem 7-10 x 2-3 cm, creamy ochre, with a dark brown net and swollen base. Flesh white to cream. Taste bitter. Smell unpleasant.
Spore-print colour grey-pink to wine red.
Suspect.
Occurrence
Near deciduous trees (Oak, Beech, Birch) occasionally near coniferous trees in deciduous and mixed woods, or along roads and avenues with old trees on poor, acid sandy and loamy soil.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
