Description
Cap convex, 6-13 cm, ochre to yellowish or olive-brown, with small flattened, adpressed brown scales.
Tubes dark yellow-brown. Pores angular, ochrous olive-brown to cinnamon-brown.
Stem 5-9 cm x 15-20 mm, ochre, with reddish brown base. Flesh lemon-yellow to bright yellow. Taste faint. Smell fungus-like.
Spore-print colour dark yellow-brown.
Edible.

Occurrence
Not uncommon near Fir in Fir and mixed woods on poor, dry sandy soil with little litter, occasionally near self-seeded Fir on heathland.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
