Wood-inhabiting Bolete
Description
Cap hunchbacked cushion-shaped to vaulted, Ø 7-10 cm, felted -powdered, matt, ochre-brown to rusty- or golden-brown, with an irregular waved, upcurved rim.
Tubes bright yellow to golden- or dirty ochre-yellow, turning blue-green when damaged. Pores declining, longitudinal-angular, rusty yellow, after damage turning blue-green, evolving in a network on the top of the stem.
Stem 6-10 cm x 15-20 mm, central to excentric, matt, fine grainy, ochre-yellow to ochre-brown, with a narrowed base. Flesh whitish to ochre-yellowish, turning greenish-blue to golden- or dirty ochre-yellow, turning blue-green when bruised. Taste mild. Smell pleasant, fresh fruity (lemon).
Spore-print colour olive-brown.
Occurrence
On strongly decomposted stems of conifer trees in forests on dry acidic sand soils.
Saprophyte.
