Leccinum quercinum

Description
Cap convex to vaulted, Ø 6-15 cm, fibrous-scaled when young, orange- to chestnut-brown, later smooth, dull rusty brown, with a cap membrane hanging over the rim.
Tubes white turning in pale yellow-brown, wine coloured to dark brown. Pores small, white to pale yellow-brown.
Stem 11-18 x 2-4 cm, pale yellow-brown, covered with white, later turning into rusty to red brown, scales. Flesh white to cream, turning in to pink to wine coloured, greyish to greenish in the base. Taste pleasant. Smell pleasant.
Spore-print colour dark brown.

Occurrence
Near middle-aged to old Pedunculate Oak along lanes and wood edges on humus rich, poor, acidic sand and loam soils.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
