Description
Cap hemispherical to convex, Ø 8-16 cm, matt, orange or apricot to reddish brown.
Tubes white, wine-red on bruising. Pores small, white or cream, wine red on bruising.
Stem 8-14 x 2-4 cm, whitish cream, covered with white scales, which become rusty brown. Flesh cream, turning wine red, greyish in stem base. Taste pleasant. Smell pleasant.
Spore-print colour ochrous brown.
Edible.

Occurrence
Near Poplar in woodland and avenues on moderately rich sandy and loamy soil.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
