Bitter Beech Bolete
Description
Cap hemispherical to convex, Ø 5-15 cm, dry, matt, fine felty to smooth, greyish-white to light grey or grey-ochreous to greyish brown.
Tubes yellow. Pores small, lemon- to bright yellow, blue-green when damaged.
Stem 6-10 x 2-5 cm, robust, reddish to blood- or wine-red, top yellow, with a well developed netting on the whole stem. Flesh whitish to pale yellow, weakly blue-green on bruising.
Taste bitter.
Spore-print colour olive ochreous.
Occurrence
Near beeches in woods and avenues on acid, poor soils. In mountains near spruces.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
