Cracked Green Brittle Gill
Description
Cap convex to flat with a depressed centre, often waved and lobbed, Ø 5-12 cm, dry, surface breaking in to flat angular scales, copper- or grey-green with ochre-yellow to cream patches.
Gills almost free, cream, fragile.
Stem 4-9 x 2-4 cm, whitish to pale cream, turning brown. Flesh white. Taste mild. Smell weak.
Spore-print colour whitish to pale cream.
Edible.
Occurrence
Near Beech (Oak) in lanes and deciduous forests on nutrient-rich sand, loam and sandy clay.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
