Description
Cap convex to irregularly flattened, Ø 6-8 cm, matt, dark purple to blackish wine-red, paler at the margin.
Gills close, white to creamy yellow.
Stem 6-8 x 1.5-2 cm, carmine, white-downy, with swollen, pale base. Flesh whitish to watery grey. Taste spicy and hot. Smell fruity, of gooseberries.
Spore-print colour creamy yellow.
Occurrence
Near Spruce on calcareous soil.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
