Russula brunneoviolacea

Description
Cap flattened vaulted with a depressed centre, Ø 3-7 cm, sticky when moist, matt when dry, grey-violet or purple to darker wine coloured or ochrous brown, with a furrowed rim when old.
Gills almost free, cream.
Stem 3-6 cm x 7-15 mm, whitish-cream, sometimes with brown patches. Flesh white. Taste mild. Smell faint, fruity.
Spore-print colour cream.
Edible.

Occurrence
Near Beech and Oak in lanes and forests on sand and loam.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
