Lactarius zonarioides

Description
Cap convex with deepened centre, Ø 5-12 cm, with small zones, orange to yellow-orange, surface viscid when damp, with enrolled margin.
Gills dense, decurrent, close to the stem often forked, yellowish to pale orange, turning greyish green on bruising.
Stem 3-10 x 1-2 cm, whitish to pale yellow-ochre. Flesh white, turning to greyish green when damaged, milk white, turning greyish green when drying.
Taste pungent.
Spore-print colour yellow-ochre.

Occurrence
With spruces in coniferous woods on acid and calcareous soil in mountain regions.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
