Description
Cap convex to funnel-like deepened, Ø 5-15 cm, milky- to chalky-white, sometimes with brown spots, surface dry, matt, often radially wrinkled.
Gills very dense, forked, decurrent, whitish to cream.
Stem 3-8 x 1-3 cm, white. Flesh hard and solid, white. Milk abundant, white.
Taste pungent.
Spore-print colour whitish.

Occurrence
With beeches, oaks and hornbeams in broad-leaved woods and avenues on calcareous and loamy soil.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
