Lactarius scrobiculatus

Description
Cap convex to funnel-shaped with deepened centre, Ø 6-15 cm, with dark concentric zones, straw- or lemon-yellow to golden-yellow, margin young felty-hairy, surface viscid to slimy when damp.
Gills dense, shortly decurrent, whitish to pale yellow.
Stem 3-8 x 2-4 cm, paler than the cap, with dark, watery pits. Flesh solid, pale yellow, milk white, turning sulphur-yellow.
Taste pungent.
Spore-print colour pale ochre.

Occurrence
With spruces in coniferous woods on calcareous soil.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
