Reddish viscid Milk-cap
Description
Cap flat vaulted to shallowly depressed or widely funnel shaped, Ø 4-10 cm, radially wrinkled, when moist somewhat sticky, brown red and sometimes with purple of flesh coloured shapes, sometimes with an indistinctly darker concentric bands and a lighter to pale pink yellow, somewhat enrolled rim.
Gill close to each other, declining, pale golden yellow to light ochre yellow.
Stem 3-7 x 1-2.5 cm, longitudinally wrinkled, whitish to pale yellow brown or reddish brown, sometimes with oval brown red patches. Flesh whitish, milk white. Taste burning sharp. Smell absent.
Spore-print colour dark cream.
Occurrence
Near Pines in coniferous forests on acidic, nutrient difficient sand soils.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
