Lactarius circellatus

Description
Cap flattened vaulted to unregularly shallow funnel shaped, Ø 5-10 cm, when moist somewhat sticky, when dry with a silvery shining, brownish grey to greyish yellow brown and often with a violet shade, with concentric lighter and darker bands and a somewhat inrolled rim.
Gills somewhat declining, yellowish white to pale ochre or greyish yellow ochre.
Stem 3-6 x 1-2 cm, matt, whitish to brownish grey or greyish yellow brown. Flesh whitish, milk white. Taste mild, later sharp. Smell absent.
Spore-print colour pale ochre.

Occurrence
On Hornbeam on heavy soils (sea and river clay, loess).
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
