Description
Cap convex to shallowly flattened funnel-shaped with umbo, Ø 3-10 cm, dry, matt, red-brown or chestnut to deeply brick-red.
Gills slightly decurrent, yellowish to pale red-brown.
Stem 4-8 x 1-2 cm, pale red-brown. Flesh white, milk white. Taste pungent and burning.
Spore-print colour whitish cream.
Suspect.

Occurrence
Common near coniferous trees, occasionally near Birch on poor sandy soil.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
