Description
Cap convex to shallowly funnel-shaped, Ø 5-20 cm, sticky, dark olive-green or olive-brown to olive-black, with incurved margin when young.
Gills narrow, close, adnate, cream to brown-yellow, staining sepia.
Stem 4-8 x 1-3 cm, firm, slimy, dark olive-green to olive-brown, often with shallow pits. Flesh white to brown, milk white. Taste burning hot.
Spore-print colour creamy-salmon.
Suspect/not edible.

Occurrence
Common near Birch and coniferous trees, along paths and in logging areas on acid sandy and loamy soil.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
