Lactarius hepaticus

Description
Cap convex to flattened funnel-shaped, Ø 3-7 cm, dry, matt, liver-coloured to greyish chestnut.
Gills slightly decurrent, yellow-brown to pale ochre, with purple blush.
Stem 3-7 cm x 4-8 mm, red-brown. Flesh white, with pink-yellowish tinge, milk white, drying sulphur-yellow. Taste bitter, pungent.
Spore-print colour cream.

Occurrence
Common near coniferous trees on acid, poor sand and loam.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
