Spruce Milk-cap


Description
Cap vaulted to shallowly funnel-shaped, Ø 3-10 cm, yellowish orange, turning greenish, with an enrolled rim.
Gills close to each other, somewhat declining, pale orange to yellow, turning greenish when bruised.
Stem 3-6 cm x 15-20 mm, pale yellow brown or orange to wine coloured, sometimes with depressed patches turning green. Flesh pale yellow to dull green, milk orange red, the flesh purple red to turning dark grey wine red. Taste bitter.
Spore-print colour pale ochre.
Edible.

Occurrence
Near Spruce in conifer forests on moderately dry, nutrient-rich or calcareous sand, loam or clay soils.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
