Sulphur Knight Cap


Description
Cap convex to plane, Ø 3-8 cm, sulphur-yellow with red-brown or olive tinge.
Gills sulphur-yellow.
Stem 2-7 cm x 10-17 mm, sulphur-yellow, with white-downy base. Flesh sulphur-yellow. Smell unpleasant, of coal gas or coal tar.
Poisonous.

Occurrence
Not uncommon near deciduous trees (Oak, Beech) in deciduous woods and avenues on rich loamy or sandy soil.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.
