Golden False Pholiota
Description
Cap hemispherical to convex or expanded, Ø 5-20 cm, finely-mealy granular, matt, ochre-brown to golden yellow.
Gills nearly free, loam-coloured to rusty brown.
Stem 8-15 x 1-3 cm, smooth, light ochrous yellow at the apex, below the membranous, wide, brown ring mealy-granular, dark yellow-brown to pale ochre-brown. Flesh whitish to light yellow. Taste mild. Smell spicy, somewhat sour.
Spore-print colour ochrous rusty brown.
Edible.
Occurrence
On rich clay or sandy soil in deciduous woods, parks, roadsides and tangled growth, often under stinging nettles.
