Porcelain Fungus
(Porcelain Cap, Poached Egg Fungus, Hares Ears, or Slimy Beech-cap)
Description
Cap convex, later expanded, Ø 3-12 cm, light grey when young, later ivory white with a yellowish grey centre, half translucent, slimy.
Gills white.
Stem 5-14 cm x 4-12 mm, striped or scaly, white with a membranous, white ring. Flesh white. Smell faintly acid.
Suspicious.
Occurrence
On branches and trunk of old Beeches, rarely on Oak.
Saprophyte, (Parasitic?)
