Steely-stemmed Bonnet Cap
Description
Cap convex, then expanded with umbo, Ø 2-5 cm, dark grey to grey-brown, with striped-grooved margin.
Gills whitish or pink to greyish.
Stem 6-10 cm x 2-4 mm, longitudinally striped, silvery grey to grey-brown, with rooting base. Flesh whitish. Smell pleasant.
Occurrence
Common on stumps and branches and at the base of (living) deciduous trees (favouring Oak), rarely on wood of coniferous trees.
