Description
Cap convex, then plane, often with flattened umbo, Ø 3-8 cm (f. polioleuca), smooth, dark brown to brown-black.
Gills close, whitish to cream.
Stem 4-9 cm x 8-15 mm, longitudinally striped, with dark brown fibrils and bulb-shaped base. Flesh white to ochre-brown. Smell faint.
Edible.
Occurrence
Common on the ground in deciduous and mixed woods, parks, avenues, roadsides, grasslands, gardens and kitchen gardens on rich sand. Summer to autumn.
Saprophyte.
