Laccaria proxima

Description
Cap convex to plane, Ø 2-7 cm, scurfy-scaly, drying orange-brown to dark ochrous yellow.
Gills distant, pale pink, white with spores.
Stem 3-12 cm x 2-5 mm, fibrous, reddish brown, with white mycelium fluff at the base. Flesh pale red-brown. Smell faint.

Occurrence
Common near young to old deciduous trees (Birch, Oak) and coniferous trees (Pine) in deciduous and mixed woods, peat bogs and heaths on poor, dry sandy soil.
Forming ectomycorrhiza.

Related and/or similar species
The very common Laccaria laccata.
