Grayling
Description
Cap funnel-shaped, occasionally with umbo, Ø 2-4 cm, matt, grey or mouse-grey to grey-brown, pale and reflexed at the margin.
Gills forked, decurrent, distant, white to creamy white, staining red when damaged.
Stem 3-5 cm x 5-6 mm, elastic, hollow, felted-fibrous, grey to grey-brown, with white-felted base. Flesh whitish to watery grey. Smell none.
Spore-print colour white.
Occurrence
On mosses (Polytrichum commune) in deciduous and coniferous woods and heathland on poor sandy soil.
Parasitic.
