Giant Slime Cap
Description
Cap hemispherical or vaulted to expanded, Ø 10-12 cm, somewhat sticky to matt and fine felted when young, smooth and shiny when old, red-brown to ochre-brown, from the centre turning lighter, with a inside curved rim with veil remnants.
Gills broadly attached, light grey to grey blue or grey violet, with a paler lamella edge.
Stem 9-12 x 2-3.5 cm, whitish, spotted with ochre, frosted above and fibrous under the membranous volatile ring. Flesh white to yellowish. Taste weak, after radish. Smell weak, after radish.
Edible.
Occurrence
On coarse litter, woodchips and bales of hay in parks, gardens and shrubberies. Also cultivated and possibly escaped.
