Sulphur Tuft
Description
Cap convex, Ø 2-7 cm, bright sulphur-yellow, with orange-brown centre, margin often with pale-yellow to brown velar remnants.
Gills lemon-yellowish green to dingy grey-green.
Stem 4-10 cm x 5-10 mm, curved, sulphur-yellow, with a faint ring zone becoming purple-brown with spores, brown at the base. Flesh sulphur-yellow. Taste very bitter. Smell mushroomy.
Poisonous.
Occurrence
Common on dead wood of coniferous and deciduous trees in woods and public gardens. In clusters or groups. Spring to autumn.
